A man who was arrested for aggravated assault in Temple on Saturday may also be linked to a Killeen homicide.

Killeen police were looking for Carlos Derell Collins Jr. after he reportedly assaulted an acquaintance in the 4800 block of Peppermill Hollow on January 14 at 2 a.m. Collins ran off before police arrived. A Crime Stoppers tip led to Collins' arrest at a Temple hotel over the weekend.

Now, police are questioning if Collins has information into the death of Sean William Schumann, who was found dead in his home on January 16.

"Is there a possibility of a connection? Sure. But, it hasn't been a specific connection right now. And, as it stands right now, the detectives are doing their investigation. And, they're working with the DA's office," said Killeen PD Spokeswoman Carroll Smith.

Schumann's death happened in the 100 block of west Anderson Street. Police were told there was a man who was unconscious and not breathing inside his apartment.

On arrival, officers were told by a co-worker that they were checking on the man because they had not heard from him and he had not shown up to work the day before. When officers went inside the apartment, they found the Schumann with apparent trauma to his head.

Schumann was pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. Cooke ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. Detectives are awaiting the results to determine the victim's death.

For now, Collins remains in jail on the assault charges. Police won't say at this time why they believe collins has information on the homicide.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 526-TIPS.
