The McLennan County Sheriff's Office is cracking down on those fraudulently using the indigent defense program to their benefit.

On Friday, James Johnson, 40, was arrested after an investigation revealed he'd reportedly misrepresented his worth to get a court-appointed lawyer. The indigent defense program was put in place to help out those with low income to have proper legal representation. The sheriff's office has hired an investigator to help weed out defendants who look to use court-appointed lawyers when the defendants actually have the money to hire a lawyer for themselves because the system is being abused.

More arrests are expected to come out as heavier enforcement is put in place.
