A man is being held on bond in the McLennan County Jail, after he was arrested for having a stolen handgun in his bag on a local college campus.

Jeremiah Bradley Weaver, 36, is being held on a $7,000 bond.

According to Sarah Menefee, Coordinator of Publications for Texas State Technical College, Weaver was arrested around 3 a.m. Wednesday when TSTC police received a call of a suspicious person walking down Campus Drive, not far from the campus police station. When officers confronted Weaver, they performed what is called a terry stop, which included patting Weaver down. It was then that officers discovered Weaver had a knife and a gun clip on him. When asked if he had a gun, Weaver reportedly told officers he did have one in his bag. Weaver consented to letting the officers search his bag, where the gun was found. Officers then investigated into who the gun belonged to.

“They ran it, and it came back as a stolen weapon,” said Menefee. “They read him his rights and arrested him for theft of a weapon and carry a weapon on a college campus.”

Menefee says Weaver is not a registered TSTC student.

“We’re happy that it all went down safely and the police handled it,” said Menefee.
