Waco police have now identified the 24-year-old man who drowned in Lake Waco Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say Christopher Neil Lansford was floating in the water around 5 p.m. Sunday on an inflatable with some of his friends when the wind pushed him into the boat ramp area of Speegleville Park by the Twin Bridges. Lansford then reportedly attempted to swim back to the beach area.

"He was going to swim back to the beach area and got into trouble," said Sergeant Patrick Swanton, Waco PD spokesman.

Lansford, while attempting to swim back, went under water and never resurfaced. Lansford's body was recovered around 6:15 p.m.

Waco PD was assisted in search and rescue efforts by Waco Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Corp of Engineers Lake Rangers.
