Man leads Temple police officers in car chase

Officers were led on a car chase in Temple on Tuesday.
Benjamin Copeland will be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, assault of an  uniformed security officer and evading arrest with a motor vehicle. The chase happened when Temple officers tried to pull over the 33-year-old over in the 300 block of Thorton Lane.  Copeland refused to stop the car and accelerated until exiting the vehicle and taking off on foot. When officer tried to arrest Copeland, he began kicking and punching  the arresting officers. He even grabbed an officer’s hand containing a taser that was turned off. The man was taken  to the hospital for medical clearance. While being seen, the suspect assaulted an uniformed security officer by striking the victim in the head with his head.

Copeland is being held at Bell County Jail.
