Waco, Tx — A McLennan County man has pleaded guilty to the July 2012 murder of his estranged girlfriend.
Jerry William Borchardt, 61, was indicted on the murder charge earlier this month. He pleaded guilty to the crime on Monday. State District Judge Ralph Strother has ordered Borchardt to appear in court for sentencing next week, on October 3.
Borchardt was arrested shortly after Carol Jean Wagner, 60, of Bruceville-Eddy was found dead in her home. Wagner's son fond the badly decomposed body on July 30, 2012, at her home, located at 108 Pinto Drive.
An autopsy revealed 'smothering' caused Wagner's death. Following the crime, Borchardt was found driving Wagner's car. Police took Borchardt in for questioning shortly after Wagner's body was discoverd, but later released him. However, further investigation later led to his arrest on August 4.
Borchardt is being held in the McLennan County Jail on a one million dollar bond. However, he will not be released due to an alleged violation of his parole.
Local law enforcement and the Texas Rangers investigated the case.
