A McLennan County jury has to sentenced a Port Arthur man to the death penalty for the 2012 murder of his wife.

Carnell Petetan, Jr. is accused of killing his wife after forcing his way into her apartment located on East Lakeshore Drive in September 2012. Police say Petetan shot Kimberly Petetan multiple times before leaving the scene. He was later arrested by Bryan PD for a traffic violation. Authorities found the victim's 9-year-old daughter, unharmed, in the car with him during the arrest.

A jury found Petetan guilty of the murder earlier this month.

“We are very pleased with the jury’s verdict. The time they took in achieving justice for Kimberly Farr Petetan and her family shows that they gave careful consideration to all of the evidence presented. Also, I want to thank and commend First Assistant Greg Davis, Assistant District Attorney Michael Jarrett, and the rest of the Prosecution team for their hard work and long hours they put in on this case.
Today, US Carnell Petetan, Jr. received the justice that was coming to him. It was the choices he made throughout his life and the evil that exists within him that earned him this death sentence,” said Abel Reyna, McLennan County Criminal District Attorney about the jury's verdict.
