McLennan Community College is expanding its engineering department and will now offer associates degrees whose credits will seamlessly transfer to larger universities in the state.

Starting this fall, MCC will offer in-depth Applied Science degrees with an emphasis ranging from biomedical, chemical, industrial, civil, mechanical and industrial engineering.

These degrees will make transferring to major schools in the state a much easier process.

Many with engineering aspirations who go to a community college sometime focus too much on basics, and don’t realize there are many prerequisite a typical engineering student would usually take.

“Students can now come here with the intention of majoring in engineering and have the idea that they will complete a degree, if not a graduate degree later on in their education," said Donnie Balmos, VP of Instruction at MCC.

Balmos said growing enrollment and recent state grants paved the way for the new curriculum.
