Today, Midway ISD celebrates the beginning of construction on two major additions to the Midway High School. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at the Midway High School Arena Foyer.

Work has begun on constructing a new student activities center, which will be located directly behind the high school. The $8.4 million facility will include an indoor practice field and weight room. The district is also working on the $6.7 million fine arts expansion project, which will include renovating and expanding the current fine arts facility.

"These buildings are so important to us, and we also are so grateful to our community for passing the bond that made this possible. We're able to accommodate all the growth we've had in our extracurricular programs," said Midway ISD Spokeswoman Traci Marlin.

Both projects are slated to be complete by spring or summer of 2015.
