Milam County Sheriff David Greene is looking for anyone who may have unknowingly purchased counterfeit silver bars from Milam County residents or persons over the internet, on websites like Ebay or Craig’s List.

While investigating the theft of stolen firearms, Chief Deputy Chris White was informed of a U.S. Secret Service investigation into the counterfeiting of silver dollars and silver bars primarily labeled “Northwest Territorial Mint”. Additionally, the bars were marked, “One Troy Ounce” and “.999 Fine Silver”. Several of those silver bars have been recovered in Milam County and have positively been tied to the counterfeiting group operating throughout Texas. The sheriff’s office believes that more of these silver bars may have been sold or traded to local residents who are unaware that they are not real.

Any persons who have recently purchased or traded for this type of silver should contact the Milam County Sheriff’s Office at 254-697-7033 and ask for Chief Deputy Chris White.
