The Waco Fire Marshal’s office is investigating how a fire started that destroyed a vacant home, and the next door neighbor thinks it was started by a squatter.

Firefighters responded to a house on the corner of 35th and Pine Avenue shortly after 5 a.m.

Multiple crews quickly contained the fire, but not before the fire spread and damaged the next-door neighbor's house siding.

He evacuated his family after another neighbor warned them of the fire.

He said the house had been vacant for 20 years and that all gas and electric lines has been shut off, leading him to believe the fire was started by somebody living inside the should-be vacant home.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.
