Temple, Texas - March 20, 2014 - The City of Temple and City of Belton will issue a joint proclamation for the brand new UWCT Center for Philanthropy Leadership and Volunteerism to be held today, March 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. A press conference will also be held, followed by a joint Temple and Belton Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony. The community is invited to attend the events and tour the new United Way Center during an open house from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The facility is located at 604 North 3rd Street in Temple.
“Our new Center provides a central location for enhanced, broad-based community impact and serves as a resource for local area nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and grass root initiatives,” said UWCT Executive Director Ann Thompson.
The March 20 celebration will stand as a milestone for the Central Texas agency. The new center is the agency’s first self-owned building since its formation in 1952. The center will serve as a central meeting and training facility, designed to increase awareness of local community needs and improve UWCT’s ability to respond to those needs.
“Our vision for the center has finally become a reality,” Thompson said. “We now have the space to launch our own new programs and partnerships to address service gaps that exist within the community. This would not have been possible without donations from leaders in the community.”
It is very important for the public to know that traditional United Way of Central Texas workplace campaign dollars have not been used to fund the new center. The facility has been backed by individual donations from civic leaders and businesses that believe the center is vital for improving the lives of our local community’s most vulnerable citizens. Several generous contributions have been made, but the agency is still raising donations to fully cover building expenses.
Thompson said the community is invited to join the festivities on March 20.
