COLLEGE STATION -- If you've driven down University Drive lately in College Station you know how much of a headache the Northgate District is and it's about to get worse.
Starting today, double lane closures began on University Drive while construction crews work to repave it and replace the sewer lines and storm drains.
These lane closures are in addition to the on-going construction to widen the sidewalks, add medians to University Drive and close College Main permanently to through traffic.
Extra workers have been called in to finish the construction before A&M students return for the semester.
"That's the goal," said Bob Colwell with TxDot. "We wanted it to be done before the students get back and especially with the new football games and more people expected to come to Texas A&M. Once it's finished, it's something we can all be proud of."
The lane closures on University Drive will last about a week and Colwell says if everything stays on schedule, all the construction should be finished by August 31st.
