Waco, texas — Monday, the Salvation Army, in partnership with Chick-Fil-A, gave out about one hundred free bowls of soup to the community.
This was made possible through the 5th annual "Soup for Hungry Souls" campaign. Each February, for every bowl of soup you purchase at Chick-Fil-A, they match it to give to the Salvation Army. This year, Chick-Fil-A donated about 1,500 servings of soup.
With today's frigid temperatures, the Salvation Army says the soup comes at a great time.
"Anytime we can give them a warm meal, especially on a cold day like today, then that's very beneficial for the homeless. Other than when they come in to eat, and maybe when they come in to spend the night, they are out in the cold during the day," said Janet Harrison of the Salvation Army in Waco.
The extra soup that wasn't used during Monday's feeding will be stored and used over the coming weeks.
