BRAZOS COUNTY -- The South Brazos County District One volunteer fire department now has a brand-new truck thanks to a USDA loan.
Today members from the USDA rural development community program as well as Congressman Bill Flores were in attendance to give the volunteer firefighters a $400,000 loan to buy a custom-built fire truck.
The new truck will replace the current 25-year-old one that no longer meets safety and performance requirements.
And since more than 3,000 rely on District One's services, this addition is critical to help save lives.
"They'll be able to provide sufficient assistance," said Sandra Micklitz with the USDA rural development Bryan district. "It adds mutual aid to each other and be able to provide the service and immediate response to the citizens, you know response time is of the utmost importance."
This is the fourth loan that the Bryan district has distributed in Brazos County.
