Children start dreaming of what they will be when they grow up at an early age, and Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 provided a day of hands-on exploration for Pre-K through second grade students.

More than 600 elementary students from across Region 12 had the opportunity to see real-world professions in action and explore a variety of career options during Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.R.E.A.M) Day. S.T.R.E.A.M. day is an educational, interactive and visually stimulating event that encourages a successful career path for young learners.

Students were able to touch, climb, build and investigate as they explore exciting 21st century careers. Interactive experiences and visual demonstrations were provided through partnership with A.J. Moore Academies in Waco ISD, including:

Hospitality and Tourism
Fine Arts
Health Services
Business
Finance
Law and Criminal Justice
Automotive Technology
Engineering
Education Professions
Information Technology

Local businesses joined together to provide hands-on exhibits giving students a tangible impression of what specific careers look like and involve. From segways to helicopters and squad cars to SWAT trucks, the diversity in vehicles alone will inspire and excite young students.

The event also included a cow milking demonstration, radio music broadcasting, crime scene investigation scenarios, painting instruction and global insect observations designed entirely for the purpose of stimulating the minds of our young learners.

“S.T.R.E.A.M day is a hands-on career exploration event that gives students a window into careers in science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math,” Gina Pasisis, assistant director of General Education Services, said. “We are excited to create this interactive learning experience for Region 12 students.”
