In light of the recent fires in the North Waco area, the Waco Fire and Police departments are asking for extra vigilance from citizens in helping  watch over the city.

In the past 18 months, there have been approximately 24 fires in the North Waco area. Many of these have been “suspicious” in nature, some obviously set with intention. Most of these fires have occurred in vacant homes.

The Fire and Police departments are working together to determine if in fact these fires are related and possibly the work of a serial arsonist. We continue to collaborate and are determined to catch those responsible for any of the intentional fires. That being said, both departments are asking for our citizens to assist in doing so.

Citizens are often times the first line of defense in catching criminals. Sometimes this can be accomplished with a simple phone call. Please report any suspicious activity, especially around vacant housing, to 911 immediately. Remember to give as much detail of persons, vehicles, and activity when calling 911. Speak clearly and calmly, and let the call-taker guide the conversation. Stay on the phone with the call-taker until they say its o.k. to hang up.

We remind our citizens that information leading to an arrest may be eligible for rewards thru Crime Stoppers. Callers can dial 753-HELP (4357) to leave tips and callers do not have to reveal their identity.
