Temple Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a fire at 611 West French Avenue, Beverly Arms Apartments Thursday afternoon.

The call was dispatched at 3:45 p.m.; the first fire unit arrived slightly over 3 minutes later reporting light smoke in the area. Firefighters were told that plumbing repairs had occurred in an upstairs apartment. Fire crews checked the apartment where soldering of copper pipes had occurred. Upon opening an interior wall they located flames and extinguished the fire. The quick and skillful actions of the crew prevented the fire from spreading.

Fire investigation determined the fire was unintentional and caused by the torch igniting wood of the interior wall. A dollar loss has not been determined. There were no injuries. Three occupants of the affected apartment will be relocated within the complex until repairs are made. Two people living downstairs were displaced as the result of minor water damage in their bathroom and will be staying with family.

Four Engine Companies, one Ladder Truck Company, one Quint Company, one Incident Commander, three support units; a total of 23 Temple Fire & Rescue personnel responded. Temple Police, Scott & White EMS and Oncor Electric also responded. The last fire unit cleared at 4:51 p.m.
