Temple, TX — Temple ISD hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a 50-year-old elementary currently under renovation.
A $5.6 million bond that passed in 2011 is updating Scott Elementary on Avenue P.
The school was built in 1951 and the superintendent said the building needs some serious updating.
In fact, renovations have already begun with kids going to class nearby in temporary buildings.
The idea to renovate, instead of building a new school altogether, was a collective one.
Temple ISD Superintendent Dr. Robin Battershell said, “We came to this faculty and staff and asked them, 'Do you want a brand new campus, or do you want a renovation?' And, they just felt like this school was such a big part of the community that renovation was appropriate.”
The project aims to be completed by the start of the 2014 school year.
