Temple man drowns in Lake Belton Thursday

Temple, TX — An autopsy has been ordered for the body of a man discovered Thursday night, after he drowned in Lake Belton.
Officials discovered the body of Larry Dixon, of Temple, shortly past 8 p.m. Thursday night around Sparta Valley Park.
Dixon's friends reported him missing, since they couldn't find him Thursday afternooon after dropping him off to go fishing that morning, around 9 a.m. The friends discovered Dixon's fishing gear and clothes near the water's edge, but not Dixon.
The Bell County Sheriff's Office, game wardens, the Army Corps of Engineers, and Morgan's Point dive team assisted in the search. Sonar equipment was also used to help locate Dixon.
Dixon's body was sent to Dallas for autopsy after authorities recovered it.
