Friday morning around 7:10 a.m., Temple Police Department responded to call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 22500 block of S. E. HK Dodgen Loop.

The initial investigation indicates that Tierra Nicole Tingle, 19 of Temple, had been in a vehicle with another person. Tingle decided to exit the vehicle at the intersection of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and S.E. HK Dodgen Loop. The victim then began to walk west bound on the loop.

A waste management truck was traveling east bound on S.E. HK Dodgen Loop when the driver observed Ms. Tingle on the shoulder of the roadway. The driver reported that the victim looked at the truck and then proceeded to stepped into the lane of traffic directly into the path of his vehicle. The driver changed into the left lane to avoid hitting the pedestrian, and she again stepped into the path of the truck. The driver again took evasive action by swerving the vehicle back to the right, and again the female ran back into the path of his vehicle and was struck.

Several witnesses provided first aid and CPR at the scene, but attempts to save the victim were ultimately unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield who ordered an autopsy performed.

The driver of the truck was not physically injured in the collision.
