West, TX — The Texas Rangers caravan will travel to West, Texas on Tuesday, January 14. The Rangers will participate with Mayor Tommy Muska, West ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford, and other City of West officials in a program at the West Community Center, Main Assembly Hall from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.
Rangers participants will include first baseman Mitch Moreland, pitcher Tanner Scheppers, Rangers Hall of Famer and Senior Executive Vice President Jim Sundberg, television announcer Steve Busby, and Rangers Baseball Foundation Executive Director Karin Morris. Former Rangers players Scott Podsednik, a native of West and Kevin Mench will also attend.
The Rangers hosted residents and first responders on City of West Night on July 6, 2013 when over 1,000 individuals from West attended the Rangers-Astros game. The event included on-field ceremonies with participation from City of West officials and first responders, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, and the Major League Baseball Tomorrow Fund. The Rangers wore a SUPPORT WEST patch on the right sleeves of their game jerseys that night, and the jerseys were raffled to raise additional funds for the relief efforts.
Texas Rangers fans also demonstrated overwhelming generosity for the team’s relief initiatives in the aftermath of the devastating explosion and fires in West on April 17, 2013. During the three-game weekend series with Seattle, April 19-21, the Rangers collected tens of thousands of essential items for the West victims and residents that filled two large meeting areas at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington as well as thousands of dollars in gift cards.
In addition, some $40,000 in cash donations went to the citizens of West from Texas Rangers fans and employees and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. Major League Baseball also donated $100,000.00 towards the relief efforts in West.
