Thousands gathered today in Killeen to honor fallen soldiers. The ceremony at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery was attended by local city leaders and officials from Fort Hood.

More than 1,000 people gathered today to honor U.S soldiers who lost their lives defending the country.

Dozens of VFW posts and other various veteran organizations dedicated wreaths and flowers to those buried just yards away from the memorial.

Central Texas has one of the largest veteran population rates in the country and it showed today.

A newly-engraved plate for 2012 was added to the Iraq and Afghanistan war memorial before a 21 gun salute concluded the days ceremonies.

The ten-year-old, 174-acre cemetery sits on old Fort Hood property.
