Three arrested for ATM theft after a lengthy car chase

Waco Police were called to the scene of an overnight ATM theft at a local hotel.

It happened at the Hilton Hotel located in the 100 block of S. University Parks Drive at 11:45 p.m. Monday night.

Three black males entered the lobby area of the Hilton and stole the ATM machine, placing it into a van stolen from Padgitts on Franklin Street, and fled the scene.

Witnesses say the three men were dressed dark hoodies and dark pants and entered the lobby with the help of a fourth suspect that had been inside and opened a locked door.

The three men went to the ATM and removed it from the lobby with a dolly to the van. The fourth man left the hotel in a separate vehicle.

The van with the stolen ATM and three suspects fled the hotel towards Interstate Highway 35.

As officers were working to call dispatchers, they relayed the information to other local law enforcement agencies in our area. A West Police officers spotted the stolen van and attempted a traffic stop.

The vehicle then got away from the West officer and headed towards Dallas on the same highway.

After a long pursuit by West Police Department and with the assistance of McLennan County Deputies, DPS, and Waxahachie Police Department, the van was forced to a stop in Waxahachie.

The three men then ran from the vehicle.

After a search of the area, the three suspects were captured and arrested.

Officers arrested James Andre Smith, 24, Charles Ray Harris Jr., 33, and Joshua Datrun Thompson, 24. All three were charged with theft and are currently being held in Ellis County Jail.

The fourth suspect in the robbery has yet to be identified.
