Waco , TX — If you haven't stopped by to get a free short stack of pancakes, you still have a little time to get there before 10 p.m. tonight.
Today is IHOP's National Pancake Day. Since 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, IHOP restaurants across the country have been serving up thousands of stacks of pancakes. The restaurants use National Pancake day as a fundraiser to also raise money for the local Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Shriners work only on donations to provide free medical services to children and their families.
"We have a lot of folks that don't have the money or the insurance to do it. So, that's where they really help out a lot with the kids. You know, we've got kids that are burned from fires, from accidents in vehicles, children born with club feet and different defects like that that they can work on," said Waco Shriner Johnny Price.
Last year, in Waco alone, the local Shriners say they raised about $10,000 on National Pancake Day.
