Toddler in critical condition after near drowning at Bryan apartment

A 20-month-old toddler is in critical condition tonight after nearly drowning in a Bryan apartment complex's pool Wednesday evening.

Police say the toddler was sitting alone on the pool deck at The Grove apartments off East 29th Street Wednesday around 5:00 P.M..

We're told the boy's step-father was swimming in the pool when the little boy fell in.

Witnesses saw what happened and quickly pulled him from the water but the toddler was not breathing.

A fast-acting woman quickly began performing CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived.

He was taken to a nearby hospital but later transferred to a children's hospital in Austin in critical condition.

"Luckily people were there paying attention but it just takes a second to turn your head and something can happen with these children," said Bryan police officer, Jon Agnew.

No charges have been filed yet but the parents could face child neglect pending the results of the investigation.
