99-year-old Elia Guzman de Estrada proudly held her right hand up and she was read the oath of allegiance, and was sworn in as a U.S. citizen at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service Building in Harlingen, Texas, on Wednesday.

She was then given her certificate.

"I am very emotional; I have so much joy that the emotion makes me cry," said Estrada.

Generations of family members proudly took pictures for the momentous occasion.

On hand at ceremony were Guzman de Estrada’s daughters, granddaughters, grandsons, and even great granddaughters.

"We are very proud of grandmother she never ceases to amaze us she is a wonderful woman at 99-years-old. Her zest of life is incredible and we all wish to emulate her someday," said granddaughter Silvia Ochoa.

Guzman de Estrada was born in Mexico in 1914 and first came to the United States when she was two-years-old. She traveled between the two countries for most of her life, and ultimately settled in Harlingen with family.
