Waco man arrested for holding girlfriend hostage with ax

A Waco man remains in jail after he reportedly held his girlfriend hostage overnight and threatened her with an ax.
 

Officials say Juan Alvarado Jr. got into an argument with his girlfriend around 10 p.m. Sunday when she came to get some belongings. Alvarado then reportedly threatened the woman with an ax. The next morning, the woman managed to escape with a friend and call police.

When officers arrested Alvarado, they also found a small bag of marijuana on him.

Alvarado is charged with aggravated assault, which is a second degree felony,  terroristic threat of family violence, unlawful restraint, and possession of marijuana.
