Waco, Texas — A Waco man is being held on federal charges without bond after police say they found a pipe bomb at his South Waco home earlier this week.
Richard Summerset was indicted on federal charges of possession of a pipe bomb on Tuesday. He is set to appear in court for another hearing on Monday.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a South Waco home Monday afternoon after a tip lead to a pipe bomb being discovered in an ice chest behind the house. According to Waco Police Department, the call came in around noon to a home, located in the 2800 block of Columbus Avenue. McLennan County Sheriff's Office Bomb Techs, ATF, Waco Fire Department, and ETMC all responded to the scene. McLennan County Bomb Techs used a robot to help render the bomb device safe.
During the ordeal, authorities had several homes in the area evacuated. No other explosive devices were found, and around 8:30 p.m., police told the media all residents had been allowed to return home.
As a result of the investigation, "one person of interest" was detained, and with the assistance of the ATF, Waco Pd's Special Crimes detectives interviewed that male individual. The suspect has now been identified as Summerset.
