Waco, Texas (Waco Police Department) — Officers responded to a shooting Monday morning in the 1100 block of North 6th at 2:55 a.m.
Once on scene, officer discovered 24-year-old Johnny Ray Boyd Jr., of Waco, lying in the breezeway area with a gunshot wound to his head.
It is believed that Boyd and his girlfriend were involved in an argument in her apartment. Boyd is believed to have threatened the female with a handgun and struck her in the head with the weapon as well. Shortly after Boyd walked out of the apartment into the breezeway area and shot himself in the head with the handgun.
Boyd was transported to Hillcrest Hospital by ETMC where he underwent emergency surgery for a life-threatening wound.
