Waco police are searching for a man they say attacked a female jogger in Cameron Park Monday morning.

The woman stopped for a drink of water when a man attacked her from behind under the Herring Street Bridge in Cameron Park.

She said the man punched her in the head and threw her against a steel wall.

Luckily, the woman fought him off and made enough noise to get help from nearby witnesses.

“What she did was the right thing to do," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton of Waco PD. "It’s hard to specify to people what exactly to do in those kind of scenarios, but in this scenario, what she did worked. It kept her alive. It kept her survival rate up and it kept it from progressing into something that could have been much worse.”

The woman was treated for injuries at a local hospital.

The man was described as being white or hispanic, roughly 5'9" and weighing 160 pounds.

The victim believe the man was aged in his mid to late 20s.
