A Waco woman received ten years felony deferred adjudication probation today after pleading guilty in January to manslaughter in connection to a June 2012 accident that left her mother dead.

Gail Lehrmann Smith, 54, reportedly hit her mother with a small SUV in the parking lot of a mental health crisis center on June 28, 2012. Smith's mother, Marguerite Lehrmann, 76, suffered life-threatening injuries to her head immediately following the accident. At the time, Lehrmann was trying to take Smith to get treatment at the center, located in the 1200 block of Clifton Street. Instead, Smith backed into Lehrmann, causing her head to hit the pavement, and then drove off. Smith later returned to the scene and was then arrested.

Lehrmann was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. She later died from her injuries after the accident.

District Judge Ralph Strother ordered the probation office to complete a pre-sentence investigation, or PSI, back in January before sentencing Smith.

If Smith successfully completes the terms of her probation, a final conviction will not go on her record.
