Waco, Texas — Waco will soon have its first walk-in chapel, which is set to open next weekend.
The chapel, located in the 700 block of Elm Street, is an alternative venue for couples looking for a more affordable option to getting married. Walk-in rates start at $100. Marriage packages range from $500 to $3,000 dollars. Prior to getting married at the chapel, however, couples will still have to wait the state mandated 72 hours after getting a marriage license before having a ceremony.
"I've met some people who said they wished they had a wedding and a chapel, but because of the cost they chose not to. And, they would like to go to a church, but they're not members, and that also presents a problem. So, I tried to give them a low cost option just so they can say that they did," said Waco Weddings and Events Owner Shelli Oliphant.
Oliphant hopes this venue will not only attract couples from McLennan County, but also others from surrounding areas.
The grand opening celebration takes place next Saturday, June 7, at the chapel. After the opening celebration, the chapel's hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Service times can also be scheduled from Monday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
