Temple police officers responded to a major accident at the intersection of eastbound Southwest HK Dodgen (Loop 363) and South 31st Street Wednesday night around 10:24 p.m. On the scene, officers found that a silver Chevrolet sedan and a red Nissan pickup had collided.

Initial investigation indicates that the silver Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on SW HK Dodgen Loop service road, and the red Nissan pickup was traveling north on S 31st Street. The Chevrolet had stopped for the red light and, for reasons still under investigation, continued into the intersection. The truck was unable to stop, and struck the right side of the car with significant force.

The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Teresa Michelle McRae, 42, of Temple. She was transported to Scott and White Hospital by EMS, where she later succumbed to her injures. She was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Don Engleking, and an autopsy has been ordered.

The Temple Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit responded, and their follow-up investigation will attempt to determine what factors led to the crash. The intersection was closed for several hours while officers gathered evidence from the scene.
