What to know about 'Fourth on the Brazos'

The Brazos River will play host to the annual "Fourth on the Brazos" celebration on Thursday.

Here are things to know before you head out to celebrate Independence Day:

Schedule:

  • 7:00 p.m.: Fenix Theory (Rock and Roll Favorites)
     
  • 7:50 p.m.: Corndog Classic Eating Competition
     
  • 8:20 p.m.: Professor D (10-piece band playing R&B and Pop Classics)
     
  • 9:45 p.m.: The Waco Community Band and National Anthem
     
  • 10:00 p.m.: H-E-B Fireworks
     

Admission:

  • The annual Fourth on the Brazos is free thanks to sponsors like H-E-B.
     

Fireworks:

  • H-E-B's Fireworks Extravaganza will begin at 10:00 p.m.
     
  • This year's fireworks will be shot by Atlas Enterprises.
     
  • The fireworks are visible throughout downtown Waco. Some recommended viewing areas include the river bank along MLK Drive, Franklin Avenue Bridge and Washington Avenue in front of the Waco Convention Center.
     

Parking:

  • Free public parking is available in parking lots and on the street throughout downtown Waco.
     
  • No parking is allowed on street medians.
     
  • Some of the best spots to park include the Farmer's Market Lot at University Parks Drive and Webster Avenue and the Heritage Square Parking Lot at Washington Avenue and 4th street.
     
  • Handicap parking is available at Ben E. Keith, the Waco Convention Center Lot at 3rd and Washington, and at City Hall at 3rd and Franklin.
     

Street Closures:

  • Several streets will be closed on Thursday, July 4 to ensure a safe fireworks show.
     
  • Please take note of the following street closures: University Parks Drive from Bosque Boulevard to Franklin Avenue, The Washington Avenue Bridge, The Franklin Avenue Bridge, and portions of Barron Avenue and Jefferson Avenue.
     

Children's Area:

  • The Fourth on the Brazos Children's Area is sure to be a lot of fun.
     
  • This year, the area will include bounce houses, sno-cones, snacks and a free art tent courtesy of the Waco Cultural Arts Fest.
     

Food & Drink Court:

  • Food and drinks will be available for sale on site from several local food trucks.
     
  • This year's line-up includes BBQ, burgers, corndogs, funnel cakes, nachos and more!
     

The Corndog Classic:

  • The second annual Corndog Classic Eating Competition will take place on stage at 7:50 p.m.

Security and First Aid:

  • More than 80 officers from the Waco Police Department will provide security for the event and manage street closures.
     
  • EMS will be located at Franklin and University Parks, Washington and University Parks and at the suspension bridge. 
     

ATM and Restrooms:

  • An ATM is located in the food court area.
     
  • Restrooms are located next to the Suspension Bridge and at the intersection of Franklin and University Parks Drive. 
     

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Coolers, lawn chairs, small backpacks and blankets are allowed.
     
  • Items not allowed include tents, shade umbrellas, pets, fireworks and glass bottles.
