(CNN) — A World War II veteran is celebrating his birthday this week, he was born the year the Titanic sank. 1912. The veteran is now celebrating 101 years.
"Happy Birthday, and many more happy returns the rest of the day. Thank you sir!" said birthday boy, Cecil Rankin.
It wasn't just any ordinary birthday celebration at the veteran's home on Friday. It was quite the special once for Ranking.
"The last five or six years, I thought each time he had a birthday that we might be done, but here we are, and he's doing good. He's doing great!" said Rankin's daughter Dorothy Doczy.
Rankin was born in Brookston and was drafted into the army at the age of 32. He fought in several battles during World War II including the Battle of the Bulge.
Rankin says that while he has seen and done a lot in his days, there is no real secret to making it past 100.
"Oh I don't know, I don't have a secret that I know of. It just came to me to live as long as I could, I guess. I'm like everybody else. I want to live as long as I can," said Rankin.
