Thursdsay night, at about 8:40 p.m., Temple Police Department responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident in the 4800 block of South 31st Street.

The initial investigation indicates a dark colored 2004 Ford pickup was traveling northbound on South 31st Street, and a male pedestrian was crossing the roadway walking, from the westside toward the east. The pedestrian appears to have walked directly into the path of the vehicle, and impact was made with the right front of the vehicle. He was thrown approximately 70 feet following the collision.

The operator of the vehicle immediately stopped the car, called 911, and initiated first aid on the victim. Responding members from Temple Fire and Rescue arrived and took over life-saving efforts, assisted by Scott and White EMS personnel. Unfortunately all attempts to save the victim were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield.

The driver, who was transported to Scott and White Hospital for evaluation, has not been charged with a crime. Temple Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation into the crash.

The victim was identified as Douglas Robert Will, 55 years old, from Temple.
