Officers responded to the 3600 block of Zephyr Road at 11:56pm, after receiving numerous 911 calls from residents who heard multiple shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two gunshot victims in the parking lot of the Star Mart Convenience Store located at 3603 Zephyr Road. One male victim was deceased and the other was transported to Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center; he was later transported to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the victim deceased at the scene at 12:40am and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased victim had arrived in his white Toyota Camry to pick up the male attendant who had just closed the business. Just after the victim pulled up to the store, three armed black males dressed in dark clothing, with their faces covered, ran up to the vehicle. The suspects robbed both victims, shooting them several times and fled the scene in the Camry. The vehicle was subsequently recovered abandoned shortly afterwards in the area of Highland and Stetson.
