Shreveport, La — A Mississippi man was arrested following a bizarre crash on a stretch of Interstate 49 Sunday afternoon.
Just before 1:00 p.m., Shreveport police officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-49 in which a vehicle flipped numerous times after plowing into the back of another vehicle.
Witnesses reported seeing Weston Ericson, 37, of Diamond Head, Mississippi, driving a car northbound on I-49 at excessive speeds when he allegedly slammed into the rear end of another car with two senior citizens, later identified as Warren and Linda Windham of Shreveport.
The force of the impact sent Ericson's car rolling multiple times, landing on its side. Detectives learned Ericson then crawled from his car and allegedly began to attack Mrs. Windham. Ericson, who was naked, was held back by passersby who witnessed the assault. He was held down until officers arrived. Mrs. Windham received only minor injuries.
Ericson, who possibly broke his arm, was taken to a local hospital and later charged with driving while intoxicated. Mr. Warren complained of neck and back pain and was taken to an area hospital.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing at this hour.
