Waco, TX (KWKT) — Early Tuesday morning, around 12:06 a.m., Waco Patrol Officers discovered a house fire at 1622 North 5th Street.
They found the vacant home with flames shooting from the roof and burning so hot it was catching the next door house on fire as well.
Officers were able to remove four occupants from the second home located at 1624 North 5th.
After discovering the fire, Officer Bynum called the fire department for assistance to extinguish the homes. He discovered the fire was so hot it caught the adjacent home on fire as well.
Additional Waco Police Officers Mrosko, Duncan and Spicer respondaed to the scene to assist Officer Bynum.
These officers had to break into a locked fence at the home and after not being able to wake the occupants of the second fire, had to make forced entry into 1624 North 5th.
Once inside they discovered two children hiding under their blankets in a room that was filling with smoke from their exterior wall being on fire. They removed the seven and nine-year-old children from the home and were then able to assist the children’s parents from the home as well.
Both homes were significantly damaged in the blazes. Waco Fire, Victim Services and the American Red Cross responded to assist.
The quick actions of Officer’s Bynum, Mrosko, Duncan and most likely prevented what could have been a terrible tragedy.
