Waco, Texas – Celebrate Mother’s Day at Cameron Park Zoo this Sunday May 12, 2013. Lots of family fun is planned and Every Mom who is accompanied by their child or children on Mother’s Day will get in free and the first 100 Mom’s to come to the zoo will receive a Carnation as a gift from the Cameron Park Zoo staff.
Visitors may participate in Cameron Park Zoo’s M.O.M. (Missing Orangutan Mothers) event at the Asian Forest exhibit from 11:00 until 2:00. This is an event that was initiated by Orangutan Outreach, a division of Bornean Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS), which is the largest Orangutan rescue organization in the world. M.O.M.’s events will be celebrated by many zoos across the United States on Mothers Day to raise awareness about the plight of Orangutans in the wild. Orangutan Keeper presentations will take place at 11:30 am, 12:30, and 12:45 pm. Enjoy watching training sessions and visiting with Cameron Park Zoo’s primate keepers about issues affecting Orangutan survival. Carol Sodaro, with Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo and Orangutan Species Survival Plan Husbandry Advisor, will also be on hand to answer any questions zoo guests might have.
