BRYAN, Tx (KYLE) — Bryan Firefighters Ricky Mantey, Jr., and Mitch Moran are coming home! It is anticipated that both firefighters will return to Bryan on Friday, May 31.
Mantey and Moran suffered extensive burns on February 15 while battling the blaze that destroyed the Knights of Columbus Hall on Groesbeck Street in Bryan. They were immediately transported to the UTMB Burn Unit in Galveston and have remained there undergoing extensive surgeries and treatment since that time. Although both are being released from the hospital and returning to their local homes, they will continue treatment at UTMB on an outpatient basis.
Chief Randy McGregor said, "We are overjoyed about Ricky and Mitch returning home. In accordance with their wishes, the fire engine they were aboard when they responded to the February 15 fire will bring them home. We hope the community will turn out to welcome these heroes back to Bryan."
McGregor anticipates they will arrive in Bryan around 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. Friday, and, with a Bryan Police Department escort, will follow State Highway Business 6 (Texas Avenue) northward through College Station and Bryan, turning left on William Joel Bryan Parkway in Bryan and ending the journey at Bryan Fire Station Number One. Since departure procedure times can vary, McGregor has advised he will notify City staff when the engine carrying Ricky and Mitch back to Bryan is about two hours from arrival at the city limits. The City's communications staff will post a more accurate arrival time on the City's webpage, Facebook and Twitter following McGregor's Friday phone call.
The public and media are invited to line the sidewalks along Texas Avenue to welcome our heroes home and to show our appreciation for their bravery and sacrifice.
