Killeen, TX (KWKT) — Killeen Police is investigating a late night shooting that resulted in the death of a 48-year-old woman in the 500 block of Esther Circle.
The Killeen Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a shooting at 11:14 p.m,, on Saturday, at 502 Esther Circle.
Upon the officer’s arrival witnesses told them there was a verbal argument between a male and female. The female left the apartment and returned shortly afterwards with several people. Witnesses advised a white male got out of a vehicle and began shooting at the male resident. The male ran into his apartment and the suspect followed him forcing his way into the residence.
The suspect shot several more times into the residence then fled the area in a vehicle. Once the suspect left, the resident saw that his mother had been shot. Officers and paramedics arrived and the female was transported to the Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center. Veronica Denise Avant succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at 3:28 a.m., by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke; he ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
During the investigation detectives were able to identify the suspect responsible for this shooting. This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 27 year old Harry Alvin Parsons with Murder and Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke issued a warrant for Parsons’ arrest.
An officer with the Round Rock Police Department arrested Parsons just after 10:00 p.m., on Sunday. He is currently in the custody with the Williamson County awaiting transport to the Bell County Jail.
The suspect’s photo has been withheld pending further investigation.
This case continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.
