Killeen, X (KWKT) — Killeen Police officers attempted to stop a 2005 Mazda 6 in the 5500 block of FM 2410, near the Killeen/Harker Heights city limits, just before 9:00am today, June 20, 2013.
The 35-year-old Hispanic male driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed; a pursuit ensued.
As officers were pursuing the vehicle, the driver made his way onto Hwy 190 westbound, taking the Trimmier exit and continuing northbound onto Trimmer.
The driver turned east onto Illinois then north onto Grey Fox Trail where he failed to negotiate a curve in the 1700 block causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a wooden fence located at 3401 Bassett Drive.
The suspect then fled from the vehicle on foot and was subsequently taken into custody in the 3400 block of Beagle Drive. Other officers arrived to find the vehicle on fire; the Killeen Fire Department arrived to extinguish the fire, officers then located an unknown amount of narcotics (Meth) inside the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was treated by paramedics for non-life threatening injuries; he is currently in the Bell County Jail. Federal charges are pending at this time.
