Temple, Texas (KWKT) — On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, the Temple Police Department arrested Jeremy Todd Toms, a 26 year old Academy man, for the offense of theft over $1,500 but under $20,000.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim had contracted with Toms, who claimed to be employed by “Destiny Custom Homes”, to perform some work at the victim’s residence. This work included the building of a privacy fence on the property. Mr. Toms told the victim that he would need an advance on the payment in order to purchase needed materials. The victim provided Mr. Toms over $1700.00 to purchase the necessary materials. The suspect subsequently cashed the check but never returned to complete the work or returned the money or materials to the victim.
Since this time the Temple Police Department has received complaints from two (2) additional victims that reported theft by Mr. Toms under similar circumstances. While these cases are actively being investigated; the Temple Police believes there are additional victims out there.
