COLLEGE STATION, Tx (KYLE) — If haven't already booked a hotel room for the home Aggie games then you're out of luck.
"When the football schedule was announced all the hotel rooms booked immediately," said CS staff planner, Morgan Hester.
There just aren't enough rooms to go around so the city says some residents are getting creative and finding ways to profit off that.
"Some people just came up with the idea of renting out their home which is a great idea but they just need to comply with the regulations," Hester said.
Barbara Moore, the city's neighborhood services coordinator, says it's creating some issues with homeowner's associations who aren't happy about people renting their property to strangers.
"Definitely within the last month and last few weeks there has been an increase of people sharing some concerns," Moore tells us. "Things they have seen on social media websites and things they've seen on other websites advertising game day properties in their neighborhoods and around the city."
It's a problem the city has never had to address before and one they aren't quite certain how to deal with so Morgan Hester wrote a blog to try and educate the community because technically you aren't allowed to rent your house out unless you're registered as a bed and breakfast.
"We would look at is as something equivalent to a bed and breakfast and because that is a business it would be considered a home occupation."
The city says there are just too many websites and listings to keep track of and actively enforce but if there are complaints, you can face a violation or fine.
