Waco, Tx — Today, the Salvation Army in Waco gave away more than a dozen air conditioning units and fans to those in need.
The donations were made possible through a grant from TXU and a donation from the Syrian Lebanese Association of Waco. This was the second "Beat the Heat" A/C giveaway by the Salvation Army this summer. About a month ago, 30 units were donated to those in need. Today, 15 units and fans were distributed.
"It's tremendously important, and particularly when people have health conditions, to be sure that they're able to have some way to cool down. And, then, of course we're also very much trying to provide assistance for those in West who've gone through the explosion there. So, we're really glad to be able to do this," said Margie Smith, Director of Financial Development for the Salvation Army of Waco.
The total value of today's giveaway was reportedly around $3,000, according to Smith.
