CNN — New York is about to be the latest state to significantly loosen marijuana laws.
That's according to the New York Times.
State officials told the paper Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to announce an executive order to permit limited uses of medical marijuana.
The order will let 20 hospitals in the state prescribe pot for some diseases like cancer and glaucoma.
It's a shift by Cuomo, who in the past has opposed legalizing medical marijuana.
State officials will work to put the new policy in place this year, but it's unclear when medical marijuana will actually be available to patients.
