Waco, Texas — Thursday, The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce held a State of the Nation luncheon at the Waco Convention Center.
Congressman Bill Flores provided a congressional update on legislation which would affect greater Waco businesses. Keynote speaker, Rob Engstrom, addressed the affordable care act and plans in congress to make it better. Engstrom also reflected on the chamber's smart investments into the transportation infrastructure. To further strengthen the local economy, Engstrom suggested leaders should continue with smart growth initiatives and focus on economic development.
"Our economy is at a crossroads nationally. Texas is getting it right. So, I'm here today to listen. I'm here to share some thoughts about the government in Washington, some things that we might be able to do better, and then talk about the political season," Engstrom.
Engstrom also talked about supporting and protecting the energy industry in Texas, as it currently provides 1.9 million jobs for Texans.
