The purest form of Crystal Methamphetamine is know as "ice". It can be smoked, injected, and sometimes snorted, and can be deadly. Investigators say this drug is becoming very popular in the Waco area
In the past month, investigators say they have found "ice" at four houses in the Waco area, including a recent discovery involving Rachel Pickens, a nurse from West. Last Thursday, investigators raided a small one-bedroom apartment in Bellmead. They found seven people inside, not only using the drug, but also found evidence of distribution.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, with the help of other city departments, has arrested at least 12 people in this area in the last 30 days. All cases involved this highly addictive and concentrated drug. Matt Cawthon, with the task force, says it is greatly increasing in this area, stretching from Waco to Bryan, and East and West from here.
The task force helps local police and the Texas Department of Public Safety track fugitives, and have recently discovered that "Ice" is crossing the socio-economic line. They say its not just "street people" anymore, but also middle and middle-upper class people using and distributing it as well.
It is important to recognize the drug, and if you notice a substance that looks like rock salt or broken glass, contact authorities immediately.
